David Ryan v. Violet Rademacher: Officer David Ryan inhaled anhydrous ammonia when he came upon a methamphetamine lab at a private residence. After overcoming a firefighter’s rule defense, (the firefighter’s rule requires that the injury occur in an emergency or rescue situation) where the court ruled that Officer Ryan’s investigation of the methamphetamine lab was not an emergency situation, Rick was able to attain a jury verdict in the amount $600,000 when the insurance carrier’s settlement offer was approximately $30,000.

Marian Czyzewski v. Leroy Peques: Marian, a police officer for the City of Sunset Hills, was assisting at the scene of an accident when his car was struck from behind by defendant. Marian suffered a serious spinal injury, which rendered him unable to work as a police officer. Settlement was obtained against the other driver for $25,000, which was coverage limit of his policy, and against the underinsured motorist coverage for an additional $250,000.
